Things to do before you try to get pregnant

Before you start buying cute lil baby stuff or start picking the color of the nursery, think about how you will prepare your body and life to welcome your little one. If you are planning to conceive a baby anytime soon, here are a few things to do in advance:



🌸 Get moving and get in shape to make your pregnancy and delivery easier. Aim for 30 mins of exercise - choose what you like, that way it would be easier to stick to a regime.

🌸 Soon you will crave for ice-creams and fries, so focus on eating well now. Eat a healthy well-balanced diet, for one. :)

🌸 Take folic acid - it prevents birth defects. Start with a daily prenatal vitamin 3month ahead of getting pregnant. Make sure your vitamins have at least 400 mcg of folic acid.

🌸 Watch your weight. Being obese can increase your risk of diabetes and high blood pressure during pregnancy.

🌸 See your doctor few months in advance to discuss your health conditions, vaccines/ tests that you need, prenatal vitamins and meds that you can or can't take.

🌸 Take genetic counseling if you have a family history. Your doctor may also prescribe you some tests based on your history and family ethnicity.

🌸 Quit smoking- smoking may raise the risk of low birth weight, miscarriage and premature birth. Even passive smoke is dangerous.

🌸 Time to give up your adult beverages too! Drinking during pregnancy increases the chances of birth defects and learning problems.

🌸 Budget for baby as with the baby come the expenses too.

🌸 Look into your health benefits as to what all is covered. Also check the maternity benefits as provided by your employer.

🌸 Plan your babymoon as you may not travel for a while now.

🌸 As your pet will be getting less attention, help him adjust now. Borrow baby clothes from a friend and play with doll. Set rules for nursery.
